The story follows Geralt of Rivia, who is searching for his adoptive daughter Ciri as she is pursued by the Wild Hunt.
That simple inciting incident takes Geralt on a journey that is over one hundred hours where he will experience a number of horrors from creatures and man alike. The action is also the most refined of the series. The other titles were clunky with combat, but The Witcher 3 is far smoother. Geralt may be too stiff for some players, but overall combat in experience in The Witcher 3 is far smoother and more visceral than before.
The Witcher 3 is one of the best RPGs of this generation, and it is one that will consistently be looked back on as one of the most significant titles to ever be released, not just for RPGs but for video games as a whole. There are some exceptions, but by and large the isometric RPG has been left behind as an artifact of a bygone era. At least, that is until Divinity: Original Sin came out. This game — partially funded on Kickstarter —revived the old isometric RPG and made it accessible to a whole new generation of gamers.
Combine that with its stellar story and amazing editor, and it is a game that players can play and replay for years to come, even six years after it came out. Divinity: Original Sin has two customizable protagonists called Source Hunters, members of a group that want to eradicate a dangerous magic simply called the Source, hence the name. They stumble on a conspiracy led by a group called the Immaculates and their leader the Conduit.
This conspiracy leads them across the world and to different realms in a thrilling and well-written adventure, especially for something made on such a budget. The game gets even more fun with the editor, where players can make their own adventures and publish them online for other players.
That adds nearly endless amounts of adventures for the characters and the world, which is something RPG fans always appreciate. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was a sort of diamond in the rough for the last console generation. It was made from a small studio that quickly imploded, pretty much killing any chance of fans seeing a sequel. So when Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning was announced, fans were excited. Not that the publisher needed to change much, because Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning still holds up.
Its gameplay is still snappy and exciting, and there is enough content to go through and explore to satisfy any RPG fan. There has been an upgrade in the graphics, but it is very minor. You could hardly call it an upgrade at all. In Amalur , players take on the role of the Fateless, a being who was killed and brought back to life.
Their resurrection has separated them from the influence of Fate basically destiny , and now they can go out and make a real impact on the conflict between the factions of the Fae.
Salvatore was the mind behind much of the world and story. However, it lays the groundwork for one of the most fun and engaging RPGs to come out this decade. While RPGs are well-known for their complex narratives, sometimes it is nice to have a game that is less story focused and more action focused. Now, hear us out on this one. When Diablo III launched, it was a disaster. The game was also sparse on content and rarely innovated from the work done in Diablo II.
But we live in a different world now. Games as services are more common, and Blizzard has been actively updating the game and adding new content, even to this day.
